The Chevy Suburban Vs. The GMC Yukon
When you’re looking at vehicles, you may wonder, “what’s the difference between two cars that look similar?” At Koons Clarksville Chevrolet GMC, we can help you find the answers to that question and more. Two vehicles you may be interested in are the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban and the 2022 GMC Yukon. These two SUVs have many similar features with some subtle differences. The best vehicle for you may depend on those differences. Below are descriptions of the features each vehicle offers, and some differences between them.
Exterior

The exterior of the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban has many features to help you access your vehicle and remain comfortable inside it. First, the Suburban has acoustically laminated glass to reduce sound from outside the vehicle. Next, it has an assist step to help you get in and out of the SUV. For your safety and comfort, the Suburban comes with heated exterior mirrors to reduce ice buildup and fogging. The headlights, taillights, and daytime running lamps are all LED on the Suburban. Finally, the vehicle comes with rain sense windshield wipers, which activate automatically when it rains.
The exterior of the 2022 GMC Yukon also has features to help you access and remain comfortable in your vehicle. These include acoustically laminated glass, an assist step, heated outside mirrors, and LED lights. Besides these features, the GMC Yukon has a powered liftgate, active aero shutters which move to reduce drag on the front of the vehicle, increasing its fuel efficiency. The GMC Yukon also has features such as deeply tinted glass to make you feel secure when you’re in the vehicle and increase the security of your belongings when you leave them behind.
Interior

The 2022 Yukon has several interior features to increase the luxury of any trips you make with the vehicle. These features include a 10.2-inch infotainment system display screen which you can use to access your vehicle’s stereo system and other features such as GPS. The front seats of the Yukon are 10-way adjustable power seats, including two-way power lumbar support. The GMC Yukon also has power outlets, including a 12-volt outlet in the front console and a 120-volt outlet in the center console for the front and rear of the vehicle. The vehicle also has three rows of seats.
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban has interior features similar to those of the GMC Yukon. These features include a 10.2-inch infotainment system display screen to access your vehicle’s entertainment and information systems. They also include a 12-volt outlet between the front seats, and two 120-volt outlets in the center console and cargo area, respectively. The seats in the Suburban include two adjustable front seats, second and third-row benches, helping you fit a driver and seven passengers in your car. The front seats have 10-way adjustment capabilities, including two-way power lumbar. There are also nine speakers in the Suburban’s audio system.
Performance
The GMC Yukon and the Chevrolet Suburban have the same engine and dimensions, making their performance really similar. Both vehicles have a 3.5-liter V-8 engine, allowing them to output 335 horsepower, and 383 pounds-feet of torque. An option you have with either vehicle is the ability to replace the standard engine with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which increases the output of the vehicle to 420 horsepower, and 460 pounds-feet of torque. With those outputs, both vehicles can tow up to 8,300 pounds and can carry a maximum payload of 1,714 pounds, making them both powerful work vehicles.
In terms of fuel economy, both vehicles support the same chassis, nearly the same weight, and the same engine, making them equal. In the city, both vehicles get 21 miles per gallon, and on the highway, they get 27 miles per gallon. With the same chassis and wheel diameters, both vehicles have the same turning radius, meaning driving one vehicle feels the same as driving the other. For storage, both vehicles have the same dimensions. Behind the rear seats, both vehicles have 41.5 cubic feet of storage, with 144. 7 cubic feet of maximum storage behind the front seats.
Safety
Like the other features of the Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon, the safety features are very similar. Both vehicles come with seven airbags, automatic emergency braking, and GM’s Buckle to Drive safety system. The SUVs also come with forwarded collision alert, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking assist, and HD rear vision camera systems. Adding to their collection of similarities, the vehicles also come with LATCH systems to keep your child’s safety seats anchored to the vehicles, lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning systems, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
There is a small difference in safety systems between the vehicles, however. The Chevrolet Suburban comes with a following distance indicator, which tells you the gap time in seconds between your vehicle and the one you’re following, which the GMC Yukon doesn’t have.
Trim Options
Trim options are different versions of the same model of vehicle, with each successive trim adding more features and comforts to the vehicle. The Chevrolet Suburban has five trims: the LS, the LT, the RST, the Premier, and the High Country. In comparison, the GMC Yukon has three trims: the SLE, the SLT, and the Denali. While the Suburban has more trim levels, allowing greater control over the number of features your vehicle has, the GMC Yukon Denali has more luxurious features than the Chevrolet Suburban High Country.

5 Oil Change Tips for Your GMC
Changing your vehicle’s oil regularly is an important part of ensuring that your vehicle runs properly and has a long life. By changing your oil, you can make a big difference in how your vehicle runs and remove any dirt or excess sludge that builds up in your engine.
Not changing your car’s oil regularly can decrease its performance and increase fuel consumption, which affects your mileage. It can also cause your engine to work even harder, which can lead to you having more problems down the road. Oil is the lifeblood of your vehicle, and nothing keeps an engine in peak condition like an oil change.
At Koons Clarksville Chevrolet GMC, we’ve put together a list of oil change tips for your GMC truck, SUV, crossover, or van. These tips can help you maintain your engine and avoid costly repairs, saving you both time and money.
Learn How Often Your GMC Needs an Oil Change

How often your GMC will need an oil change depends on several factors, including your specific model, how often you drive it, your engine, and whether you partake in activities like heavy towing or off-roading. There’s no simple answer to how often you’ll need to change your oil; while many older vehicles recommend changing your oil every 3,000 miles, newer vehicles may have an extended interval, allowing you to go up to 10,000 miles before you even need to take your vehicle in for an oil change.
If you’re unsure of how often your specific model needs an oil change, you can ask our friendly technicians. We’ll let you know of GMC’s recommended guidelines and we can give you advice about your engine to prevent it from overheating and help you extend the life of your car.
Check Your Owner’s Manual
Your owner’s manual comes with a section about oil changes, including information about the specific type of oil you use and how often you can go before you’ll need an oil change. You can also find information about the quantity of oil you need. There are three primary types of oil: conventional oil, synthetic oil, or semi-synthetic oil, which is a blend of conventional oil and synthetic oil. Each type of oil has various benefits. While conventional oil can offer quality protection and protect against standard corrosion, synthetic oil is especially good at withstanding high temperatures and resisting oil breakdown.
Semi-synthetic oil can offer some of the same protections as synthetic oil, like improved oil viscosity at hot and cool temperatures and preventing corrosion. The type of oil you use can affect your vehicle’s performance, and it’s important to make sure you’re using the recommended oil type for your model in your manual. Not using the right type of oil can cause damage to your engine, lead to oil leaks, and reduce your fuel efficiency.
Pay Attention to Your Vehicle’s Engine Oil Monitoring System
Most GMC models that are newer have advanced monitoring systems to help you keep track of when your vehicle needs an oil change. These monitoring systems can also keep track of your engine’s temperature, your driving habits, speed changes, and even road conditions and the outside air temperature. It processes this data and can let you know how many miles you have left before your oil needs to be changed, in addition to the overall status of your oil. While it won’t tell you the level of your oil, it can help you determine how much life your oil has.
It’s important to regularly check your oil monitoring system, especially when you know that your truck, SUV, or crossover is due for an oil change soon. There are a few indicators you’ll want to pay attention to. When you see a “Change Engine Oil Soon” message, know that an oil change is necessary as soon as possible, preferably within the next 600 miles or so. If you see a message about your oil pressure being low, immediately bring your vehicle to a safe stop as soon as possible and avoid restarting your engine until you’ve restored the proper oil pressure.
Check Your Oil at Home
It’s useful to get into the habit of manually checking your vehicle’s oil every so often to maintain performance and catch potential leaks before they get out of control, especially when you’re driving an older vehicle. When your odometer reaches 100,000 miles, wear on the engine can cause small amounts of oil to burn off each time you take it for a drive.
Pull out your vehicle’s dipstick and use it to check the level of oil you have in your vehicle. The tip should have oil on it, and the base of the dipstick has two small lines. The oil level should be between these two marks. If it’s at the low mark, it’s likely time to add more oil. You also want to check the color of your oil. If your oil is darker in color, it could mean there’s a lot of dirt in your oil and you’re due for a change.
During the Oil Change, Ask About Checking Your Engine’s Health
Oil changes offer a good opportunity to ask about the overall health of your engine. Even if your engine is running well, it’s good to check its health just in case there’s a break or a leak that’s gone unnoticed. Engines can be especially expensive to replace, so it’s important to keep them as healthy as possible and make any repairs quickly. During your oil change, you can ask our experts to look at your engine while they’re under your hood. If we find anything during our multi-point inspection, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Learn, Explore, and Shop When You Visit Savage Mill
Have you ever been to Savage Mill in Maryland? Savage Mill is among the few remaining former textile mills in Maryland. It stands as a tangible legacy of the dreams and machines that drove the Industrial Revolution in this great country. Tucked away in Savage, Maryland, the sprawling complex at 8600 Foundry Street is between Washington and Baltimore in Howard County.
Today, the Historic Savage Mill is an excellent example of a 19th-century manufacturing center. Take a tour and explore the mill. You will discover that most of the floors in the mill are still intact. Also, the mill is a place where visitors can go zip-lining, grab a meal, and visit an artist at work, all in an afternoon. Read on to learn more about Savage Mill’s rich history and why it’s the perfect destination for tourists.
The Beginning

In 1809, Commodore Joshua Barney gave a piece of land on the falls of Little Patuxent as a wedding present to Caroline Nee and Nathaniel Williams. Nathaniel Williams started building what we now know as Savage Mill in early 1810, along with his brothers Amos and Cumberland. In 1816, the brothers erected what we now call the Carding Building, and they powered it with a 30-foot water wheel.
In 1822, the brothers borrowed $20,000 from John Savage, a Philadelphia merchant, to fund mill operations. The brothers named their venture the Savage Manufacturing Company and named the surrounding town after Savage.
In 1853, Mr. John Savage, Jr. and his son filed a lawsuit against the Williams brothers to settle their debt owed to John Savage, Sr., who died 18 years prior. In 1859, Nathaniel Williams put up Savage Manufacturing holdings for sale.
William H. Baldwin, Jr. purchased the estate for $42,000. By 1870, Baldwin oversaw renovations to the water source and the process of relaying power to the buildings in response to the high demand for textiles triggered by the Civil War. The mill produced materials for cannon covers, tents, and other supplies for Civil War armies. In 1881, the “Old” weave building, Tower, Spinning Building, Paymaster’s Office, and the Steam Power Plant were new editions to the mill.
Savage Mill’s Timeline (1915-1949)
From 1915 to 1923, the factory and the town of Savage saw monumental changes. In 1915, a steam-controlled electric plant erected over the river was operating. Additionally, the mill received a new weaving room. New warehouses beamed up while many bungalows sprung up around the village.
In 1947, the Savage Manufacturing Company had to end its operations. The mill’s machinery was dysfunctional and costly to restore. With an overflow of war surplus in the textile market, depressed economic times, and labor union problems, the industrial unit was no longer viable. As people could buy excess canvas goods at rock-bottom prices, synthetic fabrics had taken over the market. All these pressures and demands pushed the mill out of business. In 1948, Harry H. Heim of Santa Novelties, a producer of Christmas decorations, bought the Savage Company, including the whole factory building and residential units.
The same year Heim purchased the mill, he transformed it into one of the first Christmas Bazaars in the country. The main products manufactured were Christmas ornaments. Heim was always seen in a Santa suit while in the mill.
As Heim acquired the facility and turned it into a Santa town, his idea was year-round Christmas gifts, but his joy was short-lived. Despite his enthusiasm and his promise of sustainability, Mr. Heim did not have enough financial capability. He eventually put Savage Mill up for sale in 1949.
Savage Mill’s Development (1950-1997)
In 1950, brothers Hyman, Ephraim, and Albert Winer bought the mill buildings and used them mainly for warehousing. In 1975, the Winer brothers tried bringing back the mill, but they were unsuccessful.
In September 1981, the first phase of restoration was complete. Jay Winer, who founded Savage Limited Partnership, oversaw the project, and he reopened the mill as a collection of specialty shops, restaurants, and antique dealers. The entire estate was later sold off piece by piece, providing the villagers and visitors with an opportunity to own land and build homes.
The renovation of Savage Mill by four Baltimore investors commenced in 1985, while small businesses and artists began to move in. 1986 saw the grand opening of Savage Mill’s retail center to transform it into a retail-style destination, and its complete transformation concluded in 1997.
Savage Mill Experiences
Today, Savage Mill is a place that offers varied experiences. The mill has more than 90 tenants comprising a blend of retail, businesses, and offices. There is always something new to try with the multiple classes and activities available in Savage Mill. And for the shoppers who want to shop in a historical setting, Savage Mill offers a variety of shops that cover every budget and interest, including jewelry, clothes, books, collectibles, homeware, souvenirs, and technology.
- Savage Mill’s culinary scene has also been on an upward trajectory in recent years, with new eateries, like Dive Bar & Grill (between the Old Weave and Carding Buildings), popping up.
- Historic Savage Mill’s eclectic art collection includes wearable art, fiber, woodworking, ceramics, jewelry, mosaics, glass, sculptures, paintings, and photography. Even better, the HorseSpirit Arts Gallery (in the Cotton Shed Building) offers various art classes and even hosts events featuring award-winning local artists like Rana Geralis.
- Locals and tourists can try getting tattoos with Queen’s Ink (at the Old Weave Building — Level Two).
- Historic Savage Mill Manor is perfect for all occasions, and its services include receptions, ceremonies, and event planning. The charming historic mansion offers exceptional service for its customers.
- Are you looking for thrills for your family and friends, corporate team building, or something exciting like zip-lining to do with your friends or group? Terrapin Adventures (found at the New Weave Building) can make your experience memorable.
Savage Mill weaves the attractive charm of a historical landmark and offers a memorable shopping experience and adventure.

GMC Acadia vs. Chevy Trailblazer
If you’re in the market for a new SUV, you’ve probably seen the GMC Acadia and Chevy Trailblazer by now. These two SUVs have earned a reputation for quality and performance and enjoy their earned status as top sellers in their segment. However, we know that all the features, packages, and options available can present a challenge to filter through as you try to compare them. That’s why we created this head-to-head breakdown, so you can make an informed decision on which SUV works best for you.
Exterior Style

GMC offers the Acadia in four trims: SLE, SLT, AT4, and Denali. Each trim features subtle differences, yet all remain unmistakably Acadia. You see boldness from the front with signature grilles, from the classic chrome surround on the SLE and SLT trims to the blacked-out grille of the AT4, and the premium chrome mesh grille on the Denali.
The Acadia’s bulging fenders, chiseled side body, and wide stance give it an athletic posture that’s ready for any adventure. Low-profile roof rails and trim-exclusive wheels in various sizes and styles add to its capable aesthetic.
The Elevation special edition offers blacked-out treatments to the exterior, including the grille, roof rails, 20-inch aluminum painted gloss black wheels, and signature black badging. Opting for the Denali Ultimate Package, you get an upgraded powertrain with trim-exclusive towing, performance features, and premium exterior additions such as the dual-panel sunroof.
Chevrolet makes the Trailblazer in four trim levels: LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS. The Trailblazer’s soft curves and sleek lines speak to its nimble performance. Each trim features a unique grille, yet all trims deliver an aggressive stare with LED headlights angling back and away beneath the bulging hood. Alloy wheels in multiple styles highlight the versatility of this go-anywhere SUV.
The RS trim offers sporty styling cues that turn heads on the boulevard. If you prefer to lead the way on the trail, the ACTIV model comes with all the off-road equipment needed to make that happen. In addition, you have two-tone exterior color options to enhance your stylish appearance.
Powertrain
Under the hood of the Acadia, you’ll find one of two engines. In the SLE and SLT models, you get a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine with variable valve timing, spark ignition direct injection, and stop/start technology. GMC pairs this engine with its nine-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission. As a result, this powertrain produces 228 horsepower, 258 pound-feet of torque, and tows up to 3,300 pounds when properly equipped.
The AT4 and Denali trims use a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with variable valve timing and spark ignition direct injection. It also features auto start/stop and an active fuel management system for more efficient operations. Auto start/stop shuts down your engine when stopped at an idle. In addition, GMC’s active fuel management technology shuts down cylinders at cruising speeds when full power isn’t necessary. You also get a nine-speed automatic transmission paired with this engine. This powertrain puts out an impressive 310 horsepower, 271 pound-feet of torque, and can tow up to 4,000 pounds.
The SLE, SLT, and Denali trim come standard with a capable front-wheel-drive system. GMC’s off-road equipped AT4 trim comes only in all-wheel-drive (AWD). This AWD system continuously monitors your Acadia’s driving dynamics and distributes power to the wheels that can use it most. In addition, you have selectable drive modes to dial in your throttle, shift points, and steering to match the road conditions. You can add AWD to any Acadia trim if you prefer.
Chevy offers two engine options for the Trailblazer as well. You get Chevy’s ECOTEC 1.2-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a continuously variable transmission in the LS and LT trims. As a result, this powertrain puts out 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque.
The ACTIV and RS trims come with the ECOTEC 1.3-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Chevy mates this engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission to deliver 155 horsepower, 174 pound-feet of torque, and a towing capacity of up to 1,000 pounds.
Every Trailblazer comes standard with a front-wheel-drive platform that delivers exceptional traction and control on wet or dry pavement. For even more control, you can add AWD to any trim level. You also have selectable drive modes for your Trailblazer, letting you tune your powertrain to suit the conditions.
Cutting-Edge Technology
Your Acadia’s in-vehicle tech runs through the 8-inch touch screen. In addition, apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology allow you to sync your cellphone or tablet with your infotainment system. Now you can make calls, stream your favorite music, access navigation information, and do even more hands-free with simple voice commands.
Other technology features include a six-inch color head-up display and Amazon Alexa Built-In. Now, you can take your favorite home assistant with you wherever you go. For example, you can shop online, ask Alexa for a restaurant recommendation, and even have Alexa start your car for you from inside your house.
Inside the Trailblazer, a standard 7-inch touch screen controls your infotainment system, or you can upgrade to an 8-inch interactive display screen. Your infotainment system features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and Amazon Alexa Built-in. You also get SiriusXM satellite radio installed with a free trial subscription. An available wireless charging pad adds convenience.
Driver-Assist Systems
GMC offers Pro Safety Plus, a suite of driver-assist technologies designed to elevate your Clarksville commute. The suite includes forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, lane keep assist with lane departure alert, and rear cross-traffic alert. These systems use a combination of optical sensors and radar to scan around your Acadia and alert you to possible hazards.
You get the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver-assist technology in your Trailblazer. Chevy’s suite includes the same systems that are found on the Acadia. In either vehicle, these systems have the capability to intervene with emergency brake support or steering correction to help you avoid a possible collision.
At Koons Clarksville Chevrolet GMC, we understand that every SUV driver has unique needs. When you compare these two SUVs, you see capable versatility with the latest technology at your disposal. If you’d like to learn more about them or would enjoy a hands-on experience, we invite you to schedule a personal demonstration. One of our friendly, knowledgeable staff will show you the different features and let you take both SUVs for a test drive.

Columbia is one of Maryland’s most thriving communities, with a population of just over 100,000. Here at Koons Clarksville, we know that the city’s history of collaborative spirit since it was built in the 1960s has made it an attractive place to live. The idea that guided its construction was that people from all sorts of different backgrounds could come together and put their skills to work to build an attractive community to live in.
At our dealership, we like to take a similar approach to the services we offer. Our teams of auto sales personnel, finance experts, and service technicians cooperate on a daily basis to make sure you receive a top-quality auto dealership experience.

We know that since you live so close to Baltimore and Washington, your time may be limited by work and other commitments. That’s why Koons Clarksville has set up an online auto dealership experience so that you can buy your next car or set up a service appointment without having to stop by our Clarksville location. We call it Koons Concierge, and we’d be delighted to show you how it works.
New and Used Vehicles for Sale Near Columbia
As the region’s primary dealership of Chevy and GMC vehicles, we have a broad range of new cars, SUVs, and trucks for you to explore at Koons Clarksville. The ever-popular Chevy Equinox is a great choice for families looking for a functional SUV for their day-to-day commuting needs or weekend trips out of town. Those of you looking for a more refined ride while still retaining the practicality offered by a crossover should check out the GMC Acadia.
Whether you need a work truck or just like the convenience of a hauler capable of towing heavy loads, take a look at our selection of Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra 1500 pickups. The Silverado tends to appeal to people looking to tackle the outdoors, while the Sierra attracts the urban driver.
Buying a new car isn’t for everyone. In fact, there are several benefits to purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, including cost savings and a broader choice of models and manufacturers. Our Clarksville showroom is full of a great selection of used trucks, SUVs, and cars for you to explore.
You can be confident that all of our used vehicles are in good working order. Before they make it into our showroom, our used vehicles are inspected by our team of certified auto mechanics. If they detect any problems or defects, they’ll carry out maintenance or repairs to put the issue right.
Auto Financing and Service Center
Our knowledgeable finance team can help you secure a competitive auto loan deal. Whether you’ve decided to buy new or used, we’ll get to know your financial priorities in a friendly chat so that we can make you an offer that suits you. We have partnerships with a range of national and local lenders, which allows us to be flexible in tailoring an auto loan to meet your needs.
If buying a car outright isn’t for you, we also offer lease deals for Columbia residents. Leasing a vehicle allows you to make monthly payments to drive the car or SUV for a fixed period of time, such as two or three years. Lease payments are typically lower than monthly payments for an auto loan, making it an attractive option for customers on a modest budget.
Our service department is another critical part of our Maryland dealership. Our mechanics are certified to perform the full range of auto servicing and repair jobs to the highest standards. If you want peace of mind following your auto purchase, you can purchase a vehicle service plan to cover your future auto maintenance and repair bills.
With our online service scheduling tool, you can book an appointment so that you don’t have to wait around after driving to our service center from Columbia. We can also arrange a pickup service for you if your vehicle is out of service and needs an urgent repair. Our large parts department is always on hand to supply our service technicians with the components they need to get the job done first time round.

GMC Sierra Off-Roading Capabilities
The GMC Sierra is a capable pickup truck both on and off the road. The entire lineup can handle some off-road terrain, but the Sierra also comes in several trim levels that offer extra features and equipment that help it tackle almost anything you want to try. For the 2022 model year, the Sierra received a significant makeover. In addition to some new exterior design updates, it has two new trim levels, including one that makes it more off-road capable than ever. Take a look at the GMC Sierra’s off-roading capabilities.
The AT4
When you need more off-road capabilities than the basic Sierra, the AT4 trim will help you get there. This trim is available in both the 1500 model and two heavy-duty models. It comes with a 2-inch factory-installed suspension lift to give it up to 11.18 inches of ground clearance, and this lift provides a maximum approach angle of 27 degrees making it capable of going over large boulders.
The Sierra AT4 has advanced engines designed to perform under any conditions. The standard powertrain in the 2021 AT4 is a 6.6-liter V-8 gas engine that puts out 401 horsepower and generates 464 pound-feet of torque. An optional Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V-8 that makes 445 horsepower and gets 910 pound-feet of torque. The Duramax comes with a large cooling fan and a dual-path air induction system. It also has a factory-installed diesel after-run system that helps it maintain an ideal temperature for maximum performance and an intelligent diesel exhaust braking system.
The 2022 Sierra AT4 has an updated engine lineup. It comes standard with a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder engine that puts out 277 horsepower and gets 460 pound-feet of torque.
You’ll also get a two-speed AutoTrax transfer case with the 2021 and 2022 AT4 and an active four-wheel drive setting that provides a seamless transition between two and four-wheel drive. The skids plates protect the underbody of the Sierra, and the off-road suspension with Rancho shocks helps it make its way over rough terrain.
The 2022 AT4 has some added updates. A new grille design and new LED lighting with animated sequences give it a bold and unique look, and you can add to your 2022 AT4 with the AT4 Premium Plus Package. This optional upgrade comes with a Bose stereo system, HD surround vision with two trailer view cameras, and adds the option for black power-retractable side assist steps with LED perimeter lighting. It also adds the AT4 high clearance step and a multicolor 15-inch head-up display along with 20-inch alloy wheels with gloss black accents.
The AT4X
For 2022, GMC added the even more capable AT4X trim to the Sierra lineup. It’s available in the 1500 model and sets itself apart from the regular AT4 trim with AT4X badging, 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac mud-terrain tires. Other exterior features for the AT4X include redesigned LED headlights, LED daytime running lights with animated lighting sequences, and a redesigned front fascia. The updated grille has a dark nickel finish and unique AT4X badging.
Exterior Features
This Sierra is ready for adventure with vertical red recovery hooks, an off-road chassis with off-road tuning, a steel transfer case skid plate, and it offers the option for rock sliders that help protect the Sierra’s sills and frame rails. Additional features for the AT4X include heavy-duty springs tuned to maximize the amount of travel you can get from the front and rear suspensions to help smooth out the ride over rough terrain.
Performance Features
The front and rear e-locking differentials for the AT4X are unlike anything you’ll find in other off-road pickup trucks. This system makes sure the wheels spin together even when there is a lot of resistance, so you can keep traction when driving over uneven surfaces. The locking differentials also help keep traction. They have the ability to send power where it’s needed most, whether driving through sand, mud, or over loose gravel.
Power
Power for the AT4X comes from a 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine with 420 horsepower. It generates 460 pound-feet of torque and comes with a two-speed transfer case with selectable modes to help you get the most out of the Sierra no matter where you take it.
When you need to tackle the roughest terrain, the AT4X has a unique Terrain mode. This is helpful when moving at low speeds over off-road terrain. It provides the driver with more control and allows for one-pedal rock crawling with just the accelerator.
The Look
This new Sierra has a distinct look. The polished dual rear exhaust tips seamlessly fit into the rear of the AT4X, and it also has black fog light surrounds, body-colored door handles, and dark exterior trim elements. All these exterior features make this truck stand out from others in the Sierra lineup.
X31 Off-Road Package
You don’t have to have the AT4 or the AT4X models to take your Sierra over rough terrain. The X31 Off-Road Package for the Pro, SLE, Elevation, and SLT, turns your upscale luxury pickup into an off-road capable truck. This optional package comes with an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, an integrated dual exhaust, and hill descent control. It also adds skid plates and a heavy-duty air filter.
The X31 Off-Road Package also adds unique badging.
Driving the Sierra AT4 and AT4X
GMC keeps drivers in mind with both the AT4 and the AT4X. These Sierras deliver the off-road capabilities you need when you want them, but it doesn’t sacrifice the on-road ride to do it. When you are not out tackling rough terrain, this pickup can still tow up to 13,200 pounds and carry a 2,240-pound payload.
Inside, the truck has all the tech and comfort features any driver wants, whether on or off the road. The SLE and up have a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and the higher trims offer a power-adjustable steering column, a head-up display, and premium leather upholstery.
Find your next Sierra at Koons Chevrolet GMC. With so many capable trims to choose from, including the new AT4X, you can take your truck over almost any terrain and turn your weekends into an adventure.
